Program Director

World Partners in Education is currently developing new educational programming to train highly motivated Ghanaian primary school teachers in literacy development. The goal of this programming is to provide teachers with intensive training and coaching in phonics, reading comprehension, critical analysis, and effective pedagogy. The Program Director will be responsible for leading these training sessions and promoting sustainable change within local school contexts.

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated individual to serve as a Program Director in 2012. This individual will be responsible for developing literacy programming curricula, recruiting and selecting local partners, and implementing and monitoring programming in conjunction with Board members and other staff. We are looking for a minimum commitment of 9 months, ideally a year or longer, to begin February 1st or as soon as possible.

Location:  Tema, Ghana
Compensation:  We will provide room/board and a grant up to $2300 to cover travel and miscellaneous costs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assisting in design of literacy programming (i.e., research, piloting, community partnering)
  • Recruiting and selecting teachers/schools for program participation
  • Implementing programming including training teachers on literacy curricula and coaching, observing, and assisting in actual classroom post-training
  • Monitoring & evaluation of ongoing programming
  • Overseeing volunteers
  • Logistics
  • Working with local staff and community stakeholders

QUALIFICATIONS
Required

  • BA in education, psychology, international development, or related field
  • Demonstrated success in at least one leadership role
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work with others
  • Enthusiasm for WPE mission and programming
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to independently manage multiple ongoing assignments

Preferred

  • Background in education, teaching, and/or literacy
  • Experience with qualitative research and program development
  • Experience with monitoring and evaluation
  • Experience in project management
  • Previous international travel or work experience
