Project Highlights

In our first 21 months,  our World Partners in Education team has achieved some impressive results.

Manye

2010

Thus far in 2010, we have sent 10 volunteers to serve as teachers and tutors in Manye Academy.  We have also sent our first pair of year-long educational consultants to collect data and establish a School Improvement Team to implement targeted interventions.

2009

  • The first-ever graduating class of Manye Academy achieved results on the national high-school entrance exam that were nothing short of miraculous. Not only did every student pass the exam, they each achieved distinction (a top scorer in the country) in at least one subject. Just as exciting, every student was placed at a top-tier high school: proof that your support is making a difference.
  • National Average Manye Academy
    Basic Education Council Examination Pass-rate 60% 100%
    Senior High School Placement-rate 38% 100%
  • We constructed teacher’s offices, providing meeting spaces and a lounge for the staff to improve teacher retention and performance.
  • We expanded the Computer Lab, adding 15 new computers and improving the electrical system.
  • We upgraded facilities, including the installation of doors and improvements of walls on all classrooms.
  • We supported high-performing teachers and rewarded them for their achievements to improve retention and performance.
  • Our volunteers led after school programs with World Partners in Education-provided sports equipment.
  • We strengthened the support and purpose behind our volunteer program and sent 4 volunteers to serve the community.
  • We distributed scholarships for successful graduates to ensure enrollment and achievement in high school.

These improvements at Manye were a joint effort on the part of the Manye staff, community, World Partners in Education, the Afri-Can Connection, and the generosity of school supporters.

Past Partner Schools

Konditi Primary School: October 2008-March 2010

  • We constructed a hand-dug well and installed a hand Pump with the generous support of Water for Humanity.
  • We built locker desks & chairs for classes 7 & 8.
  • We installed Windows and Doors in 5 classrooms to prevent flooding and improve security.
  • We organized the 1st annual Community Education Celebration, awarding students and teachers for their achievements and motivating the entire community to achieve greater results in the future.
  • We supported non-salary teachers assisting at the school.
  • We established a Volunteer Program, sending Dartmouth student volunteers to the school for 2 months.

Special thanks to Jody Horan and her student group Children Helping Children. Together they and all the students and community members of Richmond Middle School raised $5,200 towards the establishment of a Community Library at Konditi, as well as $1,000 to assist the AIDS orphans in the community through Konditi School.
